La Passion is located in the alley that goes up from Namseong Four-Season Market toward Sadang Woosung Apartments, right across from Namil Church. Although it’s next to the market, the area isn’t noisy or smelly at all. In fact, stepping inside the café feels like entering a completely different world beyond the bustling streets. The calm atmosphere, warm indirect lighting, and curated decorative objects give the impression of discovering a little paradise right in Sadang-dong.

The French name La Passion carries meaning beyond just “passion.” In French, “la” is the feminine article marking the gender of the noun passion, which refers to intense emotion or deep affection for something. In French-speaking contexts, it’s often used to mean “passionate.” Interestingly, La Passion has a more layered nuance than simply enthusiasm. For example, fans of the American TV series Dexter might catch a reference: in a certain episode involving a barista, the word passion comes up to convey the idea that energy and fervor, even if unleashed elsewhere, should ultimately be channeled into what truly matters at home. In other moments, dialogue like “You don’t have la passion” highlights its weight and depth. It’s a rich, meaningful word that evokes both emotion and dedication.

La Passion is a pet-friendly café, located right in front of a church, attracting a diverse crowd from young adults to middle-aged patrons who come to relax. You’ll often see young people working on their MacBooks while enjoying the calm atmosphere. Despite its central location, the café maintains a surprisingly quiet ambiance, allowing guests to savor each sip of coffee without distraction. This relaxed vibe also makes it a popular spot for couples on dates.

I’ve been visiting this café consistently for over a year since 2024. My go-to orders are the croffle and La Passion’s signature Einspänner. Preparing a croffle takes about 10 minutes, but if the café is busy, it might take up to 15 minutes. While waiting for the croffle, your coffee or beverage will be served first, letting you start enjoying your drinks without delay.

La Passion’s croffle is truly a standout treat. A croffle—blending the words “croissant” and “waffle”—is made by pressing croissant dough in a waffle iron to create a golden, crispy dessert. This treat was first created in 2017 at a café in Dublin, Ireland, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, a few trend-setting cafés in Korea introduced it, sparking nationwide popularity.

Croffles are rarely eaten plain; they’re typically topped with vanilla ice cream or kaymak and drizzled with honey or maple syrup, creating a perfectly crispy yet sweet dessert.

La Passion’s croffle has a crispy exterior and a soft, moist interior, with the sweet gelato and rich brown cheese creating an explosion of flavor in every bite. If you visit La Passion, the croffle is a must-try!

The most popular drink here is probably the Americano. Made with freshly ground high-quality beans and expertly extracted espresso, the iced Americano delivers a classic, reliable flavor. For matcha lovers, the matcha latte is a standout: the café carefully brews it to eliminate any bitterness or heaviness typical of matcha, bringing out a smooth, sweet aroma and flavor. The result is a vibrant, light green drink that reflects the owner’s careful craftsmanship.

La Passion is a café in Sadang-dong where you can experience a Hongdae-style vibe, which has earned it a devoted following. If you happen to visit Isu Station in Sadang-dong, make sure to explore the famous Namseong Sagye Market and treat yourself to delicious coffee and desserts at La Passion. Recommended Menu Picks

For first-time visitors, these menu items are highly recommended:

    1. Croffle – La Passion’s signature dessert combines the crispiness of a waffle with the buttery layers of a croissant, topped with ice cream or kaymak. Its sweet, crunchy, and soft textures make it a must-try for any dessert lover.

    2. Isu Black (Signature Classic Einspänner, Iced Only) – La Passion’s 'Classic Einspänner(= Viennese coffee)' is perfect for coffee lovers, combining bold espresso with smooth, creamy whipped topping for a rich, indulgent sip every time.

    3. Isu White (Signature Cream Latte, Iced Only) – La Passion’s Isu White is recommended for its velvety, lightly sweet cream that perfectly complements the smooth espresso, making every sip refreshingly indulgent.

    Final Verdict

Don’t miss their signature croffle or expertly brewed coffee for a truly memorable café experience.
